A Peek at What's Happening in the Garden
A glimpse into my winter flower garden here in Southern California
Hi friends,
How are you? I’ve been in full head-down editing mode for my gardening book, so I’ve been a bit quieter than normal, but I’m starting to get SO excited about it. I cannot wait to share it with you! We just had a meeting with the full publishing team and it was a real “pinch me” moment. More on the book to come!
In other garden news, the flowers are starting to pop up and come out of their winter hibernation, so let’s take a little wander through the garden and see what’s blooming! 🌿✨
First up is Peaches, our garden crasher turned beloved kitty. One day, he hopped over our fence and never looked back! His favorite pastime? “Blanket time”—where he burrows under a cozy blanket and lounges with me among the flowers like a true garden king. 🌸🐱✨
The camellias and azaleas are in full-bloom. This is one of my favorite camellias called the “Fairy Blush Camellia.”
The anemones are just starting to bloom. These are the first two blooms that have made their appearance and I can’t wait for the rest to arrive!
The peach tree is putting on its springtime show, bursting with blooms! It’s so stunning, I could (and totally do) lose track of time just staring at it. 🍑✨🌸
Since we don’t get frost, I sometimes keep my dahlia tubers in the garden beds and plant around them when they are dormant. A month or so ago, I noticed that a few dahlia plants were coming up that didn’t appear during the summer. I decided to let them go and see what happened. Now we have beautiful dahlias gracing us with their presence—magic!
The other day, my husband, Billy, gave our daisies a much-needed trim, leaving behind a giant pile that might’ve ended up in someone’s compost. Instead, he asked if I could use them for arrangements—so naturally, I dropped everything and got to work! I set most of them out at our Little Free Library, and within hours, they had all disappeared. Daisies really are little bundles of happiness, aren’t they? 🌼✨
I started snapdragon seeds a few months ago and I think they will start blooming in a week or two!
We pruned our roses early this year and some of them are just starting to bloom. We are about to add a few more rose bushes to the garden this spring—can’t wait to share them with you!
way out on the east coast on Cape Cod absolutely nothing is going on in my garden. so i am delighted to be here visiting yours, Kelli.
Peaches is such a darling, and the garden looks beautiful! 🌸
