Too many to count! I think every year will be easier on some levels, but this has never proven to be true. I started them all after taking Floret’s course in 2021, and this year I’ve realized that I need to grow only a few things and not everything under the sun! You’d think I might have learned that by now! 😆
This is all so helpful Kelli! I’ve never heard of pinching… I’ve only cut off flowers that are spent/dried out. I’m going to try pinching! Also.. I’ve never harvested my own seeds, I want to try that. My impulse is to cut off the dead flowers, but they have more to give🌷🌷
Pinching is so counterintuitive, but a game-changer in my book, Jeni. I’m excited for you to try it out! It definitely is hard to keep the flowers on the stem when they are dead, but it’s worth it in the end!!
I love purple basil, sage, and dara for foliage and filler. Totally agree that they are important for rounding out bouquets.
This tip is super obvious (although maybe not?), but if you are creating new planting beds, make sure they are easily accessible and convenient for watering and upkeep. I misjudged this when I set up four raised beds in a far corner of my property and didn't think about how much extra work it would take to unravel a hose, water, and haul pruning equipment back and forth. Whether it's considering proximity to existing storage and water or installing a shed nearby to store tools, it's definitely worth thinking about making it as easy as possible!

Oh I definitely had that problem of growing too many types of flowers. It’s hard not to!!
I love these tips.
So glad you like them, Bee!

Love those fillers too! And that is such a great tip, Kate, and something that’s really easy to overlook when starting out. Thanks for sharing!
I love this note. Such good tips!
Thank you, Jessie! What are you growing right now? 🌱
About to plant my cut and come again soon.
I didn’t know I could pinch out zinnias! And it reminds me to go and sow some. Thank you! 🌸
Yay! I’m sure you will have beautiful zinnias this year!
Your flower garden is so beautiful. It’s the dream, I love the little bouquets you have made too.
Thank you so much 😚🌸
We have 4 raised beds full of weeds. I have never felt so inspired to go cleaning out beds as I do after reading these articles!
Oh that makes me so happy, Ashley! You’ve got this!
We have 7 kids- 5 of them are on spring break this week. THEY’VE got this 😉 I’ll keep you posted on what we accomplish!
Ha, I love it! The perfect spring break activity!!
I’m not a gardener at all (just a flower nerd) and I loved this so much.
Yay, that’s so awesome, Alex! Let me know if you ever want to get more into gardening and have any specific questions. I’m always happy to help 💗🌱
I love this thread!
I’ve planted my first cutting garden!
April 11 and 16 they went in.
Cosmos and bachelor buttons are poking through so far.
I’m so excited to see how it goes and I want to sew again in a week or so.
I’m worried that I did NOT soak my nasturtiums.
Is that a certain fail?
